Responsible for all phases of the collection process to preserve the Credit Union's assets by monitoring overdrawn, delinquent, and charged-off accounts, collecting payments and recovering collateral in a timely manner to minimize losses. Project a friendly and professional attitude while assisting members with servicing existing loans and supporting the consumer loan team to help originate new loans. Maintain thorough and accurate documentation to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Position requires extensive contact with members and the ability to exercise independent judgment with minimal supervision.


Major Duties & Responsibilites:

Perform a variety of collection duties including but not limited to:

  • Contact members to negotiate payment arrangements on past due loans, negative shares, and safe deposit boxes. With empathy, determine the cause of delinquency, offer suggestions as to how members can meet their obligations and propose alternative repayment plans, while always maintaining the member’s dignity.
  • Analyze the financial situation of delinquent borrowers to complete right of offset, removal of account privileges and credit line reductions on members’ accounts. Make recommendations to supervisor for further action when arrangements to bring loan current are unsuccessful including: repossession, foreclosure, charge-off, and assignment to 3rd party collection companies.
  • Responsible for working deceased member accounts. Collect all necessary documents for filing claims in probate court to protect the assets of the Credit Union.
  • Perform skip tracing duties as needed.
  • Assist in preparing Bankruptcy related documents for processing as directed.
  • Assist in processing GAP claims on total loss autos to ensure the Credit Union receives the maximum recovery on collateral.
  • Assist in reporting negative activity accurately to ChexSystems and credit bureaus.

Respond to members’ existing loan questions via phone, email, text, and fax promptly.  Complete basic loan servicing operations including but not limited to: balance inquires, loan payments, changing payment frequencies and auto payments, and answering ancillary product questions.

Provide sales support to the loan origination team including: obtain verification documents, save documents into document imaging system, and assist members to electronically sign their documents.  

Ensure liens are perfected on collateral securing a loan. Contact dealers and finance companies to obtain appropriate paperwork and coordinate with the member, as needed, to finalize our lien status.

Additional Information/Benefits

Expierence:  Two years to five years of similar or related experience.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
