Catholic Charities of Louisville is the social-service arm of the Archdiocese of Louisville. We provide help and create hope for the poor and vulnerable through a wide range of programs, assisting clients of all races, backgrounds and beliefs. Our service area includes 24 counties throughout Central Kentucky.

 

Salary: $24.00/hour


The Community Engagement Specialist will meet the Migration and Refugee Services department’s volunteer and in-kind donation needs through targeted community outreach to groups such as Catholic parishes and the immigrant community. They will support volunteers from their introduction with the agency through the duration of their service period. The Community Engagement Specialist will also assist in the intake of in-kind donations. In addition, they will track community outreach and volunteer data for all relevant grants.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  1. Coordinate with program, outreach, and development staff in identifying volunteer needs and recruiting appropriate individuals to fill open positions
  2. Train volunteers and serve as the introductory point of contact for interested volunteers
  3. Ensure all agency volunteer protocols and procedures are followed
  4. Develop and execute specialized volunteer programs such as the Welcome Teams program including recruiting, training, and supporting sponsor groups for newly arrived refugee families
  5. Promote ongoing volunteer satisfaction, engagement, and efficacy
  6. Assist with material donation intake and leverage community resources to meet in-kind donations needs
  7. Collaborate with other staff, including the Mission and Development teams, on outreach efforts in the local community to include speaking engagements, special events, info fairs, etc.
  8. Drive personal and/or agency vehicle to satellite offices, info fairs, off-site meetings, including in surrounding counties
  9. Maintain volunteer files and track relevant data as required by the agency and funders
  10. Synthesize data for monthly and quarterly reports as required by the agency and funders
  11. Create and document standard operating procedures around outreach, donations, and volunteer management
  12. Perform other duties as assigned to meet program needs
Education Requirements (Any)
High school diploma or GED; at least two years of work experience preferably with refugees

High school diploma or equivalent. Undergraduate degree preferred.

1-2 years of relevant work experience, preferably with immigrant populations

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities and exercise sound judgment to address complex or sensitive situations.
  • Be able to interact successfully with colleagues, clients, volunteers, and service providers alike.
  • Be able to set boundaries while being both professional and compassionate.
  • Must be people oriented and relate well to varied ethnic populations.
  • Experience with and commitment to working in a diverse environment
  • Detail oriented, organized with good time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • If English is the second language, the person must have acceptable proficiency in listening and reading comprehension as well as oral and written communication in English.     
  • Flexible schedule to meet work, program and project deadlines including nights and weekends.
