Role:

Under the direct supervision of the Branch Manager, the Member Relationship Officer I is responsible for accurately processing transactions that involve cash and negotiable instruments and balancing a cash drawer within specified guidelines. Project a friendly and professional attitude while assisting all members and potential members with their financial needs, and continuously work to exceed member’s expectations through providing exceptional service and proactive servicing skills. Be knowledgeable of all products and services the Credit Union offers and provide the member with the necessary information to make an informed financial decision. Demonstrate courtesy and teamwork through positive interactions with co-workers, the management team and other departments. Promote positive relationships with representatives from local schools, universities, and community partners to communicate the benefits of credit union membership.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Provide and maintain control over receipts for member transactions including share deposits, loan payments and member account transfers. Properly inspect and verify cash and negotiable instruments received. Complete large currency transaction reports and suspicious activity reports as required. Maintain member confidence and protect operations by keeping member account information confidential and adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Provide exceptional member service while working in a high volume, sales environment. Assist members with requested financial transactions, answering questions, opening new accounts, and directing servicing issues to appropriate personnel. Monitor activity of all new accounts to ensure onboarding is followed and paperwork is complete and accurate.
  • Greet members when they enter the branch and project a friendly and professional attitude while assisting all members and potential members with their financial needs. Evaluate members' financial needs by providing banking solutions and refer them to the appropriate branch officers as needed.
  • Cross-sell credit union products and services while giving the member all necessary information to make informed decisions. Develop meaningful relationships with local schools, universities, and community partner representatives to promote credit union membership and benefits to their employees.

Expectations:

  •  Ensure Credit Union policies and procedures are being followed in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide, in person or by telephone, routine information concerning Credit Union services, including: what is the credit union; eligibility for membership; how to apply for membership; type of accounts available; interest rates on loans and shares; how dividends are computed on shares; how to start, change or stop a payroll deduction, a direct deposit and periodic transfer of funds; as well as the locations and office hours of all credit union offices.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous, and friendly atmosphere for members and co-workers. Demonstrate teamwork by working as a team player in all areas of the credit union.
  • Assist members in the accurate completion of all transactions and questions on their accounts with the Credit Union.
  • Promote the Credit Union’s financial education programs by developing relationships with representatives of local schools, universities, and community partner groups to communicate the benefits of credit union membership.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all products offered and cross-sell Credit Union products that will benefit the overall financial wellbeing of the member.
  • Maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.
  • Maintain the highest confidentiality of member information, including account information and transaction history.
  • Work closely with management to set individual goals and objectives and develop a plan to achieve them.
  • Initiate MRO II curriculum, exams, LinkedIn Learning, CUNA Professional Development Online training course work and Financial Counseling Certifications for career advancement opportunities.
  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned which are commensurate with the position and in the best interest of the Credit Union.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Previous experience in customer service and cash handling at a credit union or financial institution preferred.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust, diplomacy and professionalism is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others, building relationships, soliciting cooperation and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature.

Other Skills: Possess a working knowledge of office equipment and procedures, including ability to operate a computer, navigate the internet, and use Microsoft Office. Attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy. Ability to make mathematical computations, use a 10 key calculator, type with reasonable speed and accuracy, and write legibly. Possess mental alertness, neatness in appearance, punctuality, and dependability. Must be bondable.
