Associate Long-Term Care Ombudsman / Volunteer Coordinator
Pay: $25.00/hr
GENERAL SUMMARYThe Associate Long-Term Care Ombudsman/Volunteer Coordinator is certified to visit Long-Term Care facilities in the KIPDA and Lincoln Trail Districts to help improve residents’ quality of life. This role protects the rights and dignity of nursing home residents and manages the recruitment, training, and retention of Certified Volunteer Ombudsmen and Friendly Visitor Volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & TASKS
- Attend required training and provide in-service training for staff and volunteers.
- Ensure accessibility of services to older adults via phone, correspondence, or in-person contact.
- Represent residents in long-term care facilities within assigned geographic areas.
- Uphold residents’ rights and promote quality care.
- Investigate and resolve complaints on behalf of residents and families.
- Promote community involvement by:
- Publicizing the role of local and state Ombudsman programs.
- Informing the public about inspection reports, deficiencies, and correction plans for facilities.
- Organize and manage the volunteer program, including recruitment and retention.
- Assist in developing family and friends’ councils.
- Sponsor community education and training for facilities, human service workers, families, and the public on long-term care and residents’ rights.
- Encourage citizen involvement, especially for residents without family or friends.
- Maintain accurate records and follow required procedures.
- Avoid conflicts of interest.
- Investigate and resolve complaints to the resident’s satisfaction.
- Adhere to KIPDA and Lincoln Trail responsibilities.
- Visit long-term care facilities throughout both districts.
- Provide ongoing volunteer training and supervision, including at least 10 group meetings per year.

- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Ability to work under pressure and analyze information accurately.
- Ability to travel frequently within the community.
- Adequate close and distant vision.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree preferred.
- Completion of two years of undergraduate study required, OR equivalent experience in assessing and addressing long-term care needs of older adults (as approved by the KY State LTCO).
SPECIALIZED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Training and skill in assessing and addressing the needs of older adults.
- 36 hours of certification training required.
- Must be certified within 30 days of hire or before providing services.
- Re-certification every two years and 18 hours of annual continuing education required.
- Background check required, including:
- Adult Protective Services Caregiver Misconduct Registry
- Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry
- Criminal record check (must have no violent crimes, abuse/neglect/exploitation, felony theft, or felony drug offenses).
- Must enjoy working with the elderly.
- Must represent Catholic Charities positively in appearance and professionalism.
- Must communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, clients, and community partners.
